We found two dead squirrels in one water barrel today. A couple of weeks ago, we rescued a very exhausted, swimming squirrel from the same water barrel. It's the one to the left of the shed (if you're looking at the front of the shed).
I'm not sure why they're going in there (looking for water or food???), but we've made sure we're covering the barrels when we're done getting water.
For those who may be digging in the border garden, the dead squirrels were buried 2+ feet deep, near the northwest corner of the border planting.
